Washington Lafayette Clayton immigrated to Itawamba County during the 1840s with his family. From 1905 through 1906 he published 65 articles in the Tupelo Journal where the recorded the life of the Southern frontier of 1840 to the 1860s. These records are preserved here in one volume. They are a valuable resource for historians, for descendants of Mississippi settlers and for those who wish to explore the nature of 19th Century Itawamba County.
